Could a use be considered "fair use?"

Fair use (see Applying Fair Use for a full description) can apply on its own or work in congruence with other copyright exceptions.

To consider whether a use would weigh in favor of being a "fair use,"

  1. complete a fair use analysis, using a document such as the Fair Use Checklist linked below from Columbia University Libraries
  2. retain a copy of your analysis 
  3. re-evaluate your analysis if you need to re-use the material in future terms
