Self-Archiving

Self-archiving is the practice of depositing an open version of your work online. It provides a way to make your work OA, even when you are publishing in a subscription journal. It's also known as "green open access."

Ways to self-archive:

  1. Verify your rights and the version available for self-archiving by checking your publication agreement, SHERPA/RoMEO, or the publisher’s website.
  2. Go to http://digitalcommons.spu.edu/.
  3. Choose My Account from the options on the left, and then Sign in with your SPU Account.
  4. Select Submit Research under Contributors on the left, then choose the applicable series.  Documents self-archived by faculty and staff will go into the SPU Works series.
  5. Read and agree to the non-exclusive license.  You as the author retain all copyright and may share your work elsewhere.
  6. Fill out the article information, including title, author (include email address), keywords, and comments (DOI or link to published version if applicable).  Choose the file to upload and submit.  Items will not be immediately posted, but should appear within 2 business days.  View DC@SPU FAQs or contact Kristen Hoffman with questions.

Most, but not all, scholarly journals now permit some form of self-archiving by their authors.
