MUS 2560: Intro to Music Therapy: Finding Articles When You Have a Topic

 

When you need articles on a particular topic, it is important that you choose the right place to search. The SPU Library Article and Research Databases contain millions of full text articles on all topics.

For music psychology topics, search in the following databases:

  • Academic Search Complete
  • CINAHL Complete
  • MEDLINE
  • PsycINFO
  • RILM Abstracts of Literature
  • Education Full Text


Go to the SPU Library Article and Research Databases page.

Choose Academic Search Complete

Then click on "Choose Databases" above the search boxes.

Add the other databases listed above and click ok.

Now you can put in your keywords.

For example, "Music therapy" and "autism"

This will bring back hundreds of articles. Look on the left side of the result screen for ways to limit.

Searching Tips

  • Brainstorm keywords: Think of synonyms as well as words that are broader & narrower
  • Start with a broad search and then narrow with more terms or limiters
  • Put only one or two words in each search box.
  • Use * to find variations of your keyword. For example, music* brings back results for music, musicality, musicians, musician
  • Look for “subjects” or “descriptors” that focus in on topics
  • Click on an article title to get more information about it such as an abstract
